Membership Benefits: Professional Liability and Insurance
In British Columbia, all nurses and nurse practitioners must have professional liability protection and insurance coverage in place to practice, as required by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Your protection depends on your nursing designation and is provided through one of NNPBC’s national or provincial partners.
Professional Liability Protection for RNs, RPNs and NPs
Professional Liability Protection (PLP) safeguards nurses and nurse practitioners if a claim or complaint is made about their professional practice. This protection is provided through the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS). NNPBC members receive preferred pricing on this insurance.

- What it provides: Legal advice, risk management resources, and professional liability protection for practice-related issues
- What it costs: NNPBC members are eligible for the CNPS group rate

Insurance for Licensed Practical Nurses
For Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), liability insurance coverage is provided by Lloyd Sadd Insurance Brokers. This coverage helps protect you in the event of a practice-related incident and includes access to support and guidance from the Lloyd Sadd team. All LPNs who hold practicing registration with BCCNM are covered under this policy as part of their registration.

Commercial General Liability
All NNPBC members have access to Commercial General Liability (CGL) coverage through VICTOR. This coverage protects against claims of third-party bodily injury or property damage that may occur while providing nursing services.
